KIM PETHYBRIDGE
Listing Details
Kim is taking this year off from open studios to concentrate on making new work for 2019 and to experiment with new ideas and techniques.
Challenged by the sculptural problems of form, space, light and shadow, Kim carves intuitively using hand tools only, letting the characteristics of this ancient material dictate what will emerge. Blocks of stone lead her into creating the “shadow” series. These capture the play of light as shadows dance across the ripples and angles carved into the stone. Lumps of stone are often looked at for hours, turned and looked at again and again until she sees a form waiting to be released. Sculpting stone is about what is underneath, what is hidden, what can be revealed. Studio open by appointment throughout the year.
Kim will be exhibiting at the Avebury National Trust Sculpture Show (1st September to 7th October).
