Living just an hop skip and a jump from the famous prehistoric Ridgeway, Simone is inspired by the landscape that surrounds her.
Much of her work is taken from the experience of walking; observing clumps of trees on The Ridgeway or the big dramatic skies and horizons that surround us. A Londoner at heart, she tries to bring a different perspective and vision through her work - perhaps that element of surprise, delight and wonder that comes through responding to the natural world around her.
Simone works manly in oil on hand stretched Belgian linen that has a particularly rich texture and finish. She responds in different ways often returning to the same subject matter; sometimes using quick bright marks to give movement and light to a field or wood, or large areas of dramatic colour, abstracting the image with an intense colour palette.
Expect to see images of Hackpen Hill, Marlborough Downs and views of the The Ridgeway path. There will also be some mixed media work, image transfers, etchings and silkcreen images.
Limited Edition Gicleé Prints are available of some paintings (see www.simonedawood.com for" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.simonedawood.com">www.simonedawood.com for details)
Simone's Studio has lovely views towards the Clyffe Hangings (Clyffe Pypard). Her two New Zealand Huntaways Zak and Rufus are very welcoming but can be quite loud! If you would prefer not to be greeted by them, just let us know and we can put them inside for the duration of your visit.
