This is the second time Susie has taken part in Marleborough Open Studios. This year much of her work has been fuelled by her passion for horses and the land. She set out to capture horses as they really are. As an equine portraitist, Susie engaged mainly with their owners in the past, but capturing them in the raw, on their terms, not ours, the horses very much chose to engage with her, revealing them as curious, quizzical and comical creatures who were very keen to play. In addition, Susie has found a fascination with trees in her immediate area and is working on a series surrounding them both in the literal sense and in the abstract, while also pursuing her studio work. Susie is currently working towards a BA (Hons) in photography and draws inspiration for her current work from painters such as Vincent van Gogh, and photographers such as Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Weston and Gregory Crewdson.
