Susie is showing experimental paintings and prints that investigate mark-making to evoke the atmosphere, sounds and sensations experienced while walking through the landscape around her studio. She has been particularly interested in developing a 'vocabulary' of marks depicting sounds – tractors, birdsong, planes – and sensations such as pushing past stinging nettles, or walking through rain and wind. A short video that she made in 2015 called ‘Drawing while Walking’, with an accompanying soundtrack, will also feature as it was the starting point for her recent work.
Visitors can also see Rowan Whimster’s hand-built ceramics (see separate entry) and are welcome to wander round the garden (not accessible to wheelchairs).
You will find us by taking the Ramsbury turning off the Green in Marlborough. At the village entrance, go straight on into Back Lane (20 mph). Continue on just past the school and Isles Road and the house is on the left, just before the Square. Please park on the opposite side of road.
Work will be on show in the ground-floor rooms, which are wheelchair accessible. Rowan's studio also has wheelchair access but Susie's studio is up two flights of stairs.
Visitors are also very welcome by appointment at other times of the year.
