I enjoy 'co-operating with' and/or 'counteracting' the chance elements that are invited through the use of collage. The source for many of the pieces is a small paper boat. This boat undertakes imaginary journeys, encounters many difficulties but always survives. It holds fragments of things seen, conversations heard, observations recorded. The majority of my work is on a small scale as the text/writing on the papers fulfils its role more effectively in this context.
I have also been basing some work on abandoned theatres and cinemas, as well as a series of pieces made in response to Bicci de Lorenzo's "St Nicholas of Bari banishing the Storm" (1433-35) - a work which can be seen in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. This has led me to make some larger, diptych-style paintings.
