Ann Richmond
As we're all-too aware, the past few years have been more than a little tough for most people. As far as my art practice was concerned, it gave me the time & space in which to reinvent myself. You see, I'd long been 'secretly' painting works of 'Magic Realism' as a way of venting frustrations when more traditional projects stumbled. During the first lockdown I decided that, if I were to continue painting at all, it would be this style at the exclusion of anything else. The work had to inspire me. It had to move me. And, thought I, if it makes a connection to me, then there's a chance that it'll do the same for others...
Nothing else mattered: my 'safety valve' would now be my main practice.
And, I have to say, that as the world of my imagining has expanded, with each new picture referencing others in some way, I haven't looked back. I only hope you find as much joy looking at the work, as I've been lucky to find in their creation...
