My artist's practice is firmly rooted in an immediate, energetic and emotional response to the landscape. Focusing on evocation, rather than illustration, I aim to capture what I see before me in my own, rather idiosyncratic way. Working in soft pastels on sanded paper allows me to make direct and dynamic marks that create a sense of tension and rythm and not having received a classical artistic training, I feel it frees me somewhat from the expected conventions of landscape painting.
