A landscape does not really exist in its own right, since its appearance changes every moment. Therefore the impression it leaves upon you isn’t fixed and can be interpreted as a memory or sensation. It is this which I try to capture with my paintings.
With my portraiture I have discovered the use of patterns or shaped imagery to decorate and surround the portrait to convey character. It is nothing new.
I feel a portrait should be more than a mere likeness. I like to convey that extra sense of perception we get from meeting one another, how we find friendship with some people while others leave us cold.
I consider composition fundamental to painting and that an artwork should always be beautiful to look at.

My studio will be cleared for the exhibition. I will however have an easel set up and will demonstrate my painting technique and process.
